A Bizottság hatodik ülése kiváló alkalmat biztosított a Georgiával való gazdasági kapcsolataink áttekintésére és értékelésére, valamint új együttműködési lehetőségek beazonosítására olyan területeken, mint a kereskedelem és befektetés, a mezőgazdaság, a vízgazdálkodás, az energetika, a közlekedés, az információs- és kommunikációs technológiák, a turizmus, az oktatás és a kultúra, valamint Georgia európai uniós integrációja.

Georgia kulcsfontosságú partner Magyarország számára a dél-kaukázusi régióban; kapcsolatainkat 2022-ben stratégiai partnerségi szintre emeltük, az első közös kormánycsúcs pedig 2023-ban került megrendezésre. Magyarország következetesen támogatja Georgia Európai Unióhoz való csatlakozását, amelynek érdekében magyar integrációs szakértőt biztosítunk a dél-kaukázusi ország számára az EU-s tárgyalások előkészítéséhez. A magas szintű politikai párbeszéd mellett az országaink közötti gazdasági együttműködés is dinamikusan fejlődött az elmúlt években: kétoldalú kereskedelmünk 2024-ben az előző évhez képest 30%-kal 104 millió dollárra bővült, továbbra is pozitív egyenleg mellett.

A Bizottság ülése során a felek méltatták a Stipendium Hungaricum programban megvalósuló sikeres oktatási együttműködést – a hatályos megállapodás alapján hazánk évi 80 ösztöndíjat nyújt georgiai pályázók számára. A Magyarország Kormánya által biztosított ösztöndíjprogram keretében 2024 őszén 131 georgiai hallgató kezdte meg tanulmányait magyar felsőoktatási intézményekben. Egyetértés mutatkozott abban, hogy üzleti és turisztikai kapcsolataink fontos mozgatórugója a Georgiában piacvezető Wizz Air által üzemeltetett Budapest-Kutaiszi közötti közvetlen légijárat.

Energetikai együttműködésünk egyik zászlóshajó projektje a Zöld Energiafolyosó – európai szempontból kiemelt jelentőségű projektről van szó, melynek keretében Azerbajdzsán, Georgia, Románia és Magyarország arra vállalkoztak, hogy megszervezik és megvalósítják a zöld energia kereskedelmét, valamint az ehhez szükséges infrastruktúra és termelői kapacitások kiépítését.

A Bizottság hatodik ülésének keretében ülésezett a Turisztikai Munkacsoport és az Agrármunkacsoport, továbbá annak margóján Magyar–Georgiai Üzleti Fórum is megrendezésre került összesen 30 magyar és georgiai vállalat részvételével az élelmiszeripar, az oktatási és képzési szektor, a humán-erőforrás szektor, az okos város terület és az energetikai szektor képviseletében.

Az ülést követően a társelnökök aláírták a Bizottság jegyzőkönyvét, amely jövőbeli együttműködési irányokat jelöli ki, és megállapodtak abban, hogy a következő ülés Budapesten kerül megrendezésre.

The Hungarian-Georgian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation held its Sixth Session in Tbilisi

The Sixth Session of the Hungarian-Georgian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation (ICEC) was held in Tbilisi on 28-29 April 2025, chaired by Tamás Vargha, Deputy Minister and State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, and his Georgian partner Genadi Arveladze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

The Sixth Session of the Commission provided an excellent opportunity to review and assess our economic relations with Georgia and to identify new opportunities for cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, agriculture, water management, energy, transport, information and communication technologies, tourism, education and culture, and Georgia's EU integration.

Georgia is a key partner for Hungary in the South Caucasus region; we upgraded our cooperation to a strategic partnership in 2022, and the first Intergovernmental Summit took place in autumn 2023. Hungary consistently supports Georgia's accession to the European Union; therefore, we delegate a Hungarian integration expert to the South Caucasus country to assist the preparations for the negotiations with the EU. In addition to the high-level political dialogue, economic relations have also developed dynamically in recent years: our bilateral trade increased by 30% in 2024 compared to the previous year to USD 104 million, with a continued positive balance.

During the Session, both Sides praised the successful educational cooperation under the Stipendium Hungaricum Programme – based on the current Memorandum of Understanding, Hungary provides 80 scholarships annually to Georgian applicants. In the framework of the scholarship programme provided by the Government of Hungary, 131 Georgian students started their studies in Hungarian higher education institutions in autumn 2024. Furthermore, it was agreed that the direct flight between Budapest and Kutaisi operated by Wizz Air, the market leader in Georgia, is a key catalyst for our business and tourism cooperation.

One of our flagship energy projects is the Green Energy Corridor – from the European perspective, the project, in the framework of which Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary undertook to organise and implement green energy trade and the development of the necessary infrastructure and production capacities, is of particular importance.

The Working Group on Tourism and the Working Group on Agriculture convened on the sidelines of the Commission. Furthermore, a Hungarian-Georgian Business Forum was also held with the participation of 30 Hungarian and Georgian companies representing the following sectors: food industry, education and training, human resources, smart cities, and energy.

At the end of the Session, the Co-Chairs signed the Protocol setting out the directions for future cooperation and agreed that the next meeting of the Commission will be held in Budapest.
