Megemlékezés Raoul Wallenberg születésének 114. évfordulója alkalmából

Beszédében emlékeztetett, Raoul Wallenberg a vészkorszak legsötétebb időszakában több tízezer magyar zsidó honfitársunk életét mentette meg, veszélybe sodorva ezzel a személyes biztonságát is. Az államtitkár felidézte, hogy 2012-ben, Wallenberg születésének századik évfordulóján, a Külügyminisztérium a svéd diplomata tiszteletére emlékévet szervezett, amelynek keretében gazdag programsorozat valósult meg mind Magyarországon, mind Svédországban.

Breuer Klára kiemelte, hogy nem Wallenberg volt az egyetlen diplomata, aki a saját életét kockáztatva igyekezett menteni a budapesti és magyarországi zsidóságot, megemlítve a több tízezer embert svájci diplomáciai oltalom alá helyező és a Vadász utcai Üvegházat működtető Carl Lutz konzult, a sokezer főt spanyol származásra hivatkozó papírokkal és védett épületekkel megmentő Ángel Sanz Briz ügyvivőt, a spanyol nagykövet távozása után magát spanyol diplomatának kiadó és a menedékházak védelmét merészen folytató olasz Giorgio Perlascát, valamint a pápai oltalomlevelek ezreit kiosztó és a deportálások ellen a kormánynál határozottan tiltakozó Angelo Rottat.

Az államtitkár kijelentette, hogy Raoul Wallenberg és társai erőfeszítései mindig aktuálisak maradnak; bátorságuk, morális tartásuk és emberségességük az idők végezetéig példaként szolgál mindannyiunk számára.

Commemoration of Raoul Wallenberg on the 114th anniversary of his birth

On August 4, 2026, Klára Breuer, State Secretary for Bilateral Relations, attended and delivered a speech at a commemorative event organized by the Raoul Wallenberg Association to mark the 114th anniversary of the birth of the Swedish diplomat and rescuer.

In her speech, she recalled that Raoul Wallenberg saved the lives of tens of thousands of our Hungarian Jewish compatriots during the darkest period of the Holocaust, putting his own personal safety at risk. The State Secretary recalled that in 2012, on the 100th anniversary of Wallenberg’s birth, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized a commemorative year in honour of the Swedish diplomat, during which an eloquent series of events took place in both Hungary and Sweden.

Klára Breuer emphasized that Wallenberg was not the only diplomat who risked his life to save the Jewish communities of Budapest and Hungary. She also mentioned Consul Carl Lutz, who placed tens of thousands of people under Swiss diplomatic protection and operated the Glass House on Budapest’s Vadász Street; Chargé d’Affaires Ángel Sanz Briz, who saved thousands of people with papers claiming Spanish origin and by providing protected buildings; Giorgio Perlasca, an Italian who, after the Spanish ambassador’s departure, posed as a Spanish diplomat and boldly continued to protect the safe houses; and Angelo Rotta, who distributed thousands of papal letters of protection and firmly protested the deportations to the government.

The State Secretary stated that the efforts of Raoul Wallenberg and his colleagues will always remain relevant; their courage, moral integrity and humanity will serve as an example to us all until the end of time.
