A Külügyi Intézet új vezérigazgatója

A külpolitika és a diplomácia látható része sokszor egy-egy csúcstalálkozóban vagy magas szintű tárgyalásban ölt testet. Ezek mögött azonban rengeteg csapatmunka, felkészülés, elemzés és stratégiai gondolkodás áll.

Ezért döntött úgy a kormány, hogy a Magyar Külügyi Intézet visszakerül a Külügyminisztérium irányítása alá, és ismét központi szerepet kap a magyar külpolitikai döntések szakmai előkészítésében.

„Az elmúlt években, a Miniszterelnökség irányítása alatt, az Intézet működését a szakmai szempontok mellett egyre erősebben meghatározták a napi politikai elvárások. Én azt szeretném, ha a jövőben ismét a lehető legmagasabb színvonalú, önálló szakmai tudást biztosítaná a döntéshozók számára. Olyan elemzésekre van szükségünk, amelyek világosan megmutatják, hol húzódnak a magyar nemzeti érdek határai, milyen világpolitikai trendfordulók előtt állunk, és ezek hogyan hatnak majd Magyarország biztonságára, gazdaságára és mozgásterére” - közölte Orbán Anita külügyminiszter.

„Az Intézet új vezetése ezt az alapos, független és előretekintő kutatói munkát fogja szolgálni. Ezért felkértem az ismert külpolitikai elemzőt, Feledy Botondot, hogy vezérigazgatóként vállalja el az Intézet vezetését” – tette hozzá Orbán Anita.

Feledy Botond külpolitikai szakértő és kommentátor, podcast-műsorvezető, valamint a HetiFeledy világpolitikai hírlevél szerzője négy éven át. Kutatói és szakmai munkássága elsősorban az euro-atlanti biztonságpolitikára, az információs hadviselésre és a kiberbiztonságra fókuszál. Korábban a brüsszeli European Leadership Programme vezetőjeként, illetve a Red Snow Consulting ügyvezető igazgatójaként dolgozott. Nemzetközi kapcsolatok tárgyakban tartott órákat az ELTE Állam- és Jogtudományi Karán, valamint a PPKE Bölcsészet- és Társadalomtudományi Karán, egy félévet pedig a Sciences Po Dijon-i campusán oktatott. 2017-ig a budapesti Szent Ignác Jezsuita Szakkollégium igazgatói tisztségét töltötte be, tagja volt az országos Szakkollégiumi Minősítő Bizottságnak, valamint a MATEHETSZ-nek is. 2007-ben társalapítója volt a Kitekinto.hu-nak, Magyarország első külpolitikai hírportáljának, 2011–2012 között pedig az MTI külpolitikai szerkesztőségét vezette. 2017-ben beválasztották a #NewEurope100 listára – ez a Google, a Financial Times, a Visegrádi Alap és a lengyel Res Publica Alapítvány közös kezdeményezése, amely évente száz, a közép-európai régiót leginkább átformáló személyt választ ki. Botond társalapítója az EU Negotiation Moot szimulációs versenynek, résztvevője volt az amerikai külügyminisztérium International Visiting Leadership Program elnevezésű programjának, és korábban a German Marshall Fund Marshall Memorial Fellow ösztöndíjasa is volt. Tanulmányait a SciencesPo Bordeaux-n, a Université Paris II-n, a Freie Universität Berlinen és az ELTE Budapesten végezte.

The new CEO of the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs

The government has decided to return the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where it will once again play a central role in the professional support of Hungarian foreign policy decisions. Botond Feledy will lead the institute

The tangible aspects of foreign policy and diplomacy often take the form of a summit or high-level negotiations. Behind these, however, lies a great deal of teamwork, preparation, analysis, and strategic thinking.
That is why the government has decided to return the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where it will once again play a central role in the professional support of Hungarian foreign policy decisions.
Previously, under the direction of the Prime Minister’s Office, the Institute’s operations were increasingly shaped by day-to-day political expectations instead of professional considerations.

„I would like the Institute to once again provide decision-makers with the highest possible standards of independent, professional expertise. We need analyses that clearly show where Hungary’s national interest lies, what tipping points in global politics we are facing, and how these will affect Hungary’s security, economy, and room for maneuver,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Orbán.

„The Institute’s new leadership will be dedicated to this thorough, independent research and foresight. For this reason, I have asked the renowned foreign policy analyst Botond Feledy to take on the role of CEO and lead the Institute,” she announced.

Botond Feledy is a geopolitical expert and foreign policy commentator, podcast anchor and author of the weekly HetiFeledy newsletter (in Hungarian) on world politics. His research and activities have focused on Euro-Atlantic security, information operations and cyber security, among others issues.
Earlier, he was director of the European Leadership Programme in Brussels and the former CEO of Red Snow Consulting. Botond offered classes at ELTE AJK and PPKE BTK on international relations and related topics. He also taught one semester at Sciences Po Dijon. Until 2017, he served as President of the Saint Ignatius College in Budapest, was member of the National Board of College for Advanced Studies and MATEHETSZ. In 2007, he co-founded Kitekinto.hu, HJungary’s first foreign policy news portal. In 2011-2012, he headed the foreign affairs section of MTI, the Hungarian state press agency. He was elected as a member of the #NewEurope100 in 2017, a joint initiative of Google, the Financial Times, the Visegrad Fund and the Polish Res Publica Foundation where each year they choose the 100 most transformative people of the Central European region. He is a co-founder of the EU Negotiation Moot simulation game, alumnus of the International Visiting Leadership Program of the US State Department, and a former Marshall Memorial Fellow of the German Marshall Fund.
